During periods of construction or earthworks, such as road building, sediment ponds are installed to manage the increased runoff of water due to the reduced absorbing of the land. The mud and other debris particles present in the runoff needs to be managed by means of the addition of a flocculant material. Failure to manage runoff can result in large fines.
The flocculant causes the particles to attract each other accelerating coagulation and settlement to the bottom of the water. This then allows the clear water to then be released into the normal water management system. The flocculant is delivered via an automatic system installed in a wooden shed, built on each pond site and discarded at the end of the works.
ARM was asked to design a complete rotomoulded flocculant dispensing system that could replicate the exact chemically dose sediment retention ponds principles of rainfall activated sheds but also easy to move around to sites, position and to be reusable.
Our solution was to design an all in one rotomoulded solution comprising a variable catchment tray, a rainwater header tank with adjustable drain holes and a flocculant reservoir. The system allows for rain activated pump free flocculant displacement.
The inclusion of a polycarbonate displacement sheet allows for simple setup and adjustment of the catchment tray area. A unique self-draining displacement tank allows it to be easily drained, at the end of the job, by simply turning on a tap, removing the need to bail or pump the water.
Weighing in at just 45kg prior to the addition of a chemical, the Floc Box is easy to install and remove from as and when required. The Floc Box units are designed in 75, 200, and 400-litre sizes and are able to service sites from as small as 0.3 ha up to 5 ha allowing flexibility and tailored options for your site.
